Vulnerability & Affordability Conference 2016: Energy, Water & Telecommunications

This Conference will explore vulnerability and showcase better practice in addressing the associated issues. It provides further opportunity to consolidate collaborative approaches to prevent financial vulnerability, facilitate social and financial health and well-being and support businesses in dealing with their customers and communities. This Conference keys in to recent regulatory developments for vulnerable customers and highlights the best opportunities for supporting these customers given transforming consumer protection frameworks.

The Conference sessions will include:

  • Exploration of vulnerability including factors leading to and key indicators
  • Leading business initiatives and programs
  • National research on tariffs, disconnections and fees and charges
  • The poverty premium and its implications
  • Independent dispute resolution – exploring the systemic issues

Building on the success of SACOSS’ Hardship and Affordability Conferences over the past 3 years, the 2016 Conference will bring together leaders from the energy, water and telecommunications sectors and once again promises to be a significant gathering of policy makers, business leaders, regulators, non-profit organisations and community service providers.

6th Annual Post-Budget Breakfast with the Treasurer

SACOSS is delighted to be hosting the 6th Annual Post-Budget Breakfast with the Treasurer, the Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, as an exclusive Member-only event. This year’s breakfast is taking place on Tuesday 19 July.
 
As always, the State Budget will be crucial for our sector and for vulnerable and disadvantaged South Australians. With South Australia continuing to face high unemployment and underemployment, it is critical that this budget includes initiatives that directly grow employment opportunities, equip South Australians with training and skills, and provide support for communities through this difficult time.
 
This event is your opportunity to hear Treasurer Koutsantonis speak directly to the community services sector about the State Budget, and is your chance to put your own questions to him.

Registration is only available to SACOSS Individual Members, and staff of SACOSS Member organisations.

Community Sector Pre-Election Forum: Homelessness & Housing Affordability

SACOSS, Shelter SA, Community Housing Council SA and Homelessness SA are hosting a major Pre-Election Forum focusing on issues of significance for the South Australian health and community services sector. The forum will have a special focus on affordable housing and homelessness.

There is mounting concern about the uncertainty of homelessness funding provided under the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH), which has no assurances from the federal government regarding funding beyond the middle of next year (2017).

Attendance at this forum is vital for housing affordability and the future of the homelessness sector, but it is also highly relevant for all community sector workers.
