A key role of a peak body like SACOSS is advocacy on behalf of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. This sits alongside the charitable work of our sector so that our sector both directly supports vulnerable and disadvantaged people and seeks policy changes to ensure justice, opportunity and shared wealth for all South Australians. To fulfil this mission we campaign in a number of areas set out in our Strategic Plan, namely:
- income support
- social and economic participation
- law and justice.
In addition, SACOSS also advocates for policies to support the work and development of our sector to make it easier and better to provide vital services.
SACOSS campaigns in a variety of ways including policy development, research and publication of reports on key issues of concern, organising meetings, events and making public statements, building community awareness and alliances, and advocacy direct to government officials, MPs, parliamentary committees and other decision makers.
