Adelaide Metro (Stepney) - Voice, Treaty, Truth Forum

The South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) and Mission Australia invite you to attend a forum about the Uluru Statement from the Heart and its call to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution, implement a First Nations Voice to Parliament and work towards Treaty and Truth-telling as key steps on Australia’s journey to reconciliation.

Come along to hear about the Uluru Statement, the forthcoming referendum and the question all Australians are being asked to consider.

The forum will be facilitated by Ngarrrindjeri, Kaurna and Wirangu woman, Melissa Clarke, a delegate at the Constitutional Convention at Uluru and a signatory to the Uluru Statement - Voice, Treaty, Truth.

The forum will include an overview about the Uluru Statement and the referendum process, followed by a panel discussion, question and answer session, a call for action to help take our nation forward and an opportunity for general discussion.

Date:     Monday 18th September 2023
Time:    12:00pm for 1:00pm – 3:00pm
              A light lunch will be served from 12:00pm before the forum begins at 1:00pm.

Changing the narrative on housing

Join our facilitator Nicole Halsey and the SACOSS Policy Team to unpack the current unhelpful narratives about housing and together find better ways to think and talk about housing that makes more humane policy solutions not only possible but simple, logical and the most obvious choices.

This complimentary session will include:

Walking Together Workshop

Join us to champion a movement where all Australians walk together to construct a better future. 

SACOSS is proud to partner with Yes23 and the Walking Together Project to bring you this informative complimentary workshop facilitated by Nicole Laupepa and Jacqui Parker. 

Connecting the past with the present and the present with the future, this interactive workshop facilitates knowledge, understanding and a sense of purpose for non-Indigenous Australia to walk together with First Nations peoples.

With the Uluru Statement from the Heart as a framework, this workshop paves the way for participants to accept the invitation and confidently walk together. Together we will find ways to take meaningful and appropriate action in the journey of reconciliation and gain a deeper sense of who we are as a Nation.

Join us for our 13th annual post-budget event with the with the Treasurer

The SA State Budget will be handed down on Thursday 15th June. SACOSS will be hosting our 13th annual post budget event with the Treasurer, the Hon. Stephen Mullighan MP and warmly invite our members and friends to join us for lunch on Wednesday 21st June from 12pm, at the Adelaide Convention Centre.   

At this lunch the Treasurer will discuss the key areas of the budget for the community services sector, followed by a panel of sector experts who will discuss what it means for our sector and the people it supports.

HESTA Superannuation Update

NFP Governance Training

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the Governance Institute to offer SACOSS members the chance to complete a Certificate in Governance for Not-for-Profits at a reduced price.

The Certificate in Governance for Not-for-Profits (NFPs) is designed to address the learning needs of a wide range of professionals with varying levels of governance responsibilities in the NFP sector.

Designed and taught by experts in the area of governance for NFPs, the course is made up of 4 compulsory subjects plus 2 electives (to be confirmed and agreed by the group).

The Certificate is open-entry, with no prior qualification required. You can find out more about the certificate here.

Date: 3 day course held over Friday 17 March, Friday 24 March and Friday 31 March 2023
