Achieving Water Security for Sustainable Farming Families and Communities Project

Researchers from UniSA undertook research to improve the sustainability of SA's farming families by delivering guidance on enhancing policy elements for safe and sustainable water storage in an important but often overlooked asset in SA's rural landscape - farm dams. 

The following report presents the results of three phases of research that develops and tests a Water Equity Typology (WET) Model for South Australian to better understand decision making and behaviour of farmers with respect to their dams. 

Multicultural South Australian Water Consumer Project

5 December 2018

Colmar Brunton conducted 40 in-depth interviews with water consumers from across metropolitan and regional South Australia to document the particular issues arising for SA consumers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, in respect to the use, cost, quality and access to water in order to better understand, support and service their needs.

This project was funded under the Consumer Advocacy Research Fund (CARF).

Minor and Intermediate Retailers Research and Advocacy Project (SAFCA)

Many South Australians receive their water and sewerage services from minor and intermediate size providers. These providers are mainly in regional South Australia, with approximately 5,700 customers receiving drinking water and 89,000 people serviced by either a Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS) or Septic Tank Effluent Drainage Service (STEDS).

Restricted Water Customer Research Report

SACOSS commissioned Urbis to undertake research to better understand the profile of people who have had their water restricted, as well as the impact restriction has had on their lives. Through a series of in-depth interviews with customers and key stakeholders, this report also seeks to identify opportunities to strengthen and enhance support provided to those who have had, or are at risk of having, their water restricted.

Financial Counselling Services Guarantee for SA Water Customers Project

The South Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA) developed a proposal for a priority service arrangement that will enable SA Water customers to access fast-track financial counselling assistance. Under the model, it is recommended that customers across the state are able to benefit from face-to-face assistance, with a guaranteed appointment within two weeks.

Water Consumers with a Disability Research Project (JFA Purple Orange)

JFA Purple Orange conducted face-to-face interviews and an online survey of 129 South Australian residential water customers living with a disability (or have a family member living with a disability) to understand issues faced in terms of use of water, cost and quality of access to water.

Annual SACOSS Briefing to the Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion: Water Pricing Issues Affecting South Australian Consumers

The Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion and SACOSS have entered into a Service Agreement where SACOSS is funded to deliver the Consumer Advocacy and Research Fund (CARF) Program. As part of this Agreement, SACOSS is required to provide an annual briefing to the Minister about water pricing issues affecting South Australian consumers. This briefing fulfills this output.
