SACOSS Study Participant Information

Participant information

What is this about?

The South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) is the peak body for the non-government health and community services sector in SA. As part of our role we conduct research, run campaigns and advocate with and on behalf of people on low incomes.

We’re conducting an independent study looking at the experiences of people who have difficulties paying their energy bills and whose main source of income is paid work.

The goal of this current research project is to find ways to improve consumer outcomes for people in paid work who are experiencing cost of living pressures.

How can I participate?

To register your interest in participating in a short discussion with SACOSS about your experiences, please email your or text 0402721749 and leave your name and telephone number. A SACOSS staff member will contact you to discuss your participation in the interview.

**Please note that SACOSS is only able to speak to a limited number of people who fit the criteria for the study**

Where will the interview be held and how long will it take?

Interviews will be conducted face-to-face, either at the SACOSS office in Unley, or at another suitable location, whichever is most convenient to you.

The interview will take around 45 - 60 minutes. When you register your interest to take part, you can indicate your preferred day and time. We can accommodate requests for interviews outside business hours due to work commitments.

Following the interview you will receive $80 cash as a thank you for your time.

Will my interview be confidential?

Your interview answers and your decision to participate will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone. Your name will not be published anywhere, nor will any other details that could be used to identify you or your household.

Your contact information will only be used by SACOSS to arrange your interview and provide you with a thank you gift.

Can I change my mind about participating?

Yes, participation is entirely voluntary and you may withdraw from the study at any time.

How will my information be used?

SACOSS will summarise your feedback for use in a report. We won’t use your name or any other information that could identify you. SACOSS will use the report to advocate for better support for energy consumers.

Who can I contact if I have questions about the interview?

If you have any questions about the interview, you can contact Rebecca Law via email at rebecca@sacoss.org.au, or (08) 8305 4212 (Monday – Thursday).

You can also contact us if you decide after the interview that you don’t want your information used in the report.
