Policy Briefing Note: Residential Tenancies Act Review

This Policy Briefing Note is a quick summary of the SACOSS submission to the state government Discussion Paper proposing amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act - the major state legislation governing private rentals. SACOSS welcomes some proposals, but calls for a focus on rental affordability, including measures to make energy and water cheaper for renters, and a cap on rent increases.

South Australians are currently experiencing a rental affordability crisis. Against this background, SACOSS welcomed the opportunity to engage with the review of the Residential Tenancies Act 1995, but we were disappointed the review Discussion Paper fails to adequately address this crisis. Our submission is largely focused on affordability issues.

SACOSS have welcomed the opportunity to engage with the review of the Residential Tenancies Act 1995. South Australians are currently experiencing a rental affordability crisis. Disappointingly, the review Discussion Paper fails to adequately address this crisis, but our submission is largely focused on affordability issues.
