Our 10th annual Energy, Water and Housing Conference is on the theme of Living Without the Basics, and examines how where we live and whether we have tenure over our homes impacts on access to decent housing, and affordable energy and water.
Renters and those living in public or social housing can be disadvantaged with limited access to energy efficiency programs and renewable energy, as well as having fewer opportunities to improve the thermal efficiency of their homes. This is just one of the many disadvantages seen everyday across our country. South Australia is also the only state in Australia where renters are required to pay a water supply charge, as well as water usage (unless specified otherwise in the tenancy agreement). There are also big gaps in access to safe, reliable and affordable water for some people living in remote and regional SA.
These issues have implications for health, well-being and costs of living for people who live in inefficient housing and can least afford high energy and water costs.
The Energy, Water and Housing Conference will consider topics from interdisciplinary perspectives with expert speakers within the energy, housing and water sectors and provide opportunities for participants to engage with and influence policy in these fundamental areas.
